Getting A Divorce?

Dr. Mel McGee assists individuals and families navigating divorce through her practice, Covington-McGee Christian Counseling. She integrates professional psychotherapy with faith-based guidance to help clients process relationship breakdown and transitions.

Dr. Mel McGee’s professional beliefs on divorce bridge a theological commitment to marriage with a grace-centered approach to emotional recovery. As a pastoral counselor, her philosophy balances the sanctity of relationships with the practical reality of helping individuals rebuild after a breakup.

Marriage as a Sacred Commitment

Lifelong Design: Dr. McGee operates from the foundational view that "marriage is a life-long commitment" and structured as a covenant involving three parties: the couple and God.

Proactive Preservation: Because of her belief in the sacred bond of marriage, she heavily emphasizes early intervention, intensive premarital training (via the Twogether in Texas program), and marriage counseling to repair relationships before separation becomes final.

Grace and New Beginnings
A Second Chance at Love: Despite her conservative framework regarding marriage, Dr. McGee openly states through Covington-McGee Christian Counseling that she believes "everyone has another chance at love" after a divorce.

Forward-Looking Recovery: Her philosophy rejects the idea that a person is permanently defined or broken by a failed relationship. She structures care to guide clients toward a "better, brighter" future version of themselves.

Holistic Processing of Grief

Legitimate Bereavement: Dr. McGee treats divorce and severe breakups not just as legal transitions, but as major trauma and a form of grief.

Unified Healing: Her clinical practice emphasizes that while the journey of separation is inherently difficult, true healing requires addressing the interconnected psychological, emotional, and spiritual components of the individual.
